Frequently Asked Questions

We offer professional in-home pet care services that may include drop-in visits, dog walking, cat care, puppy care, medication administration, and overnight or extended care depending on your pet’s needs and our availability.

We primarily serve Golden and the surrounding area, but may be able to accommodate requests outside of our standard service area depending on availability. Travel fees may apply for locations outside our usual range.

We typically require a meet-and-greet before services begin. However, in certain situations, we may be able to start care without one, such as emergency requests or referrals from a trusted pet sitter in our network.

Our cancellation policy depends on the service type and timing of the cancellation. Because we reserve time specifically for each client, overnight, holiday, and last-minute cancellations may be subject to different terms. Please review our Policies page for full details.

Yes, Tails of the West is insured through Pet Sitters Associates for added peace of mind while your pets and home are in our care.

Yes. Basic medications are included in all services. Pets who need more involved medication care, injections, or medications given at an exact time may require a medical visit instead. We’re happy to discuss your pet’s needs in advance to determine the best fit.

Our goal is for clients to feel comfortable with any trusted member of our team caring for their pets. If you would prefer a specific sitter, we may be able to arrange that in advance based on availability, and additional meet-and-greets can also be scheduled if needed.

No, we do not currently offer boarding because we do not have the proper setup for that service.

In-home care allows pets to stay in their own home while a sitter comes to them for visits or overnight care. Boarding means pets stay at a kennel, facility, or someone else’s home while their owners are away. The main difference is that in-home care keeps pets in a familiar environment and closer to their normal routine, while boarding places them in a new setting with more exposure to unfamiliar people, sounds, and animals.

A professional pet sitter provides pet care as a business and typically has established policies, experience, systems, and a higher level of accountability. Hobby sitters may offer occasional care, but often do not have the same level of structure, consistency, or professional support in place. Choosing a professional pet sitter can offer added peace of mind through reliable communication, clear expectations, and experienced care.
